<begin mid-school "girls are dumb" rant>
So why is it that no matter how hard you try, you can’t get the cutest girl (whom you’ve conveniently sat next to) on the UNM Shuttle to pay attention to you? And then a few hours later, the girl in the KFC drive through (the one who has more mascara than Tammy Faye) flirts with you and gives you a free apple pie? I really wish I could explain these quandaries…but if I could, then men would understand women and I’m pretty sure that a quantum singularity would appear and swallow the earth.
Suffice to say, the one tactic I most frequently employ to attract the attention of the female species didn’t work. That’s right, busting out the knitting failed me. All I got was a cursory glance at my hands, and then she continued to stare out the window. Did I mention that she was super hot? She was even my height (read: “very short”), and had an advanced biology textbook and a cool scarf. Does she not realize that we’re perfect for each other? How could the knitting fail? I mean, guys who knit are super hot aren’t they? Where was Emma when I needed her? Ugh. Girls are so confusing.

But you know what makes me feel better (and super hot)? My new shoes! That’s right, I went down to the friendly neighborhood department store and bought some cool shoes last night. They’re these Skechers clog type things, and they show off my socks superbly. Pictures at some point, when I actually remember to buy some AA batteries for the camera. And the funniest part? When the suit sales guy wandered over to complain to the shoes guys about not having any customers, and he looks at my denim stripe socks and says, “Young Man, what the hell are those on your feet?”
EDIT (10/19):
Here’s my swank new shoes, which I got for only $40. Pretty good eh?
And thanks for all the nice comments regarding the “girls are dumb” rant, you’ve all made my day just that much better, so thanks :)
So it’s Socktoberfest, and I have some recently finished socks, some socks on the needles and more socks planned in my notebook. The only thing that I’m lacking is a sweet pair of shoes to show off my socks. And this is where you come in. :) I’m looking for a pair of shoes that will be good for winter and will allow me to show off my sweet socks in style.
So far I’ve found these “Birkenstock Approved” Clogs (I’m thinking that means they’re knockoffs), but I’m not quite sure I’m a Birkenstock kinda guy. I think that’s more Stephanie’s forte. And these shoes aren’t exactly wet weather ready…
I also like these Merrell Jungle Mocs. They’d be good shoes for wearing to work and campus, and they’d go with my work attire of jeans and nice shirt well.
I don’t think I’m too much of a Crocs guy, they might get worn around the house, but I don’t think I’m up for wearing plastic shoes around town. EDIT (10/17): Just discovered these Croc Endeavors and they actually look pretty nice. I never really dug the whole holes in the top thing on the other styles, but I like this style a lot. I hear that Crocs are pretty comfy, and they’d definitely show off my socks. And they’re in my budget, a big plus.
So do you have any other suggestions? Maybe you have a pair of shoes that you like for yourself (if you’re a guy knitter) or that your husband/son/boyfriend likes for wearing with handknit socks (if you’re a girl knitter). Let me know, you could be the one who picks my winter shoes!
Oh, and Emma wants to show you her new haircut. She actually likes it, she’s just making the face because I’m making her pose. Ever the diva.
"I don’t want to pose! You can’t make me!"
Today was a blast. Emma and I did our first major agility event, and it was so much fun. It was the 2006 Show N’ Go, put on by the Southwest Agility Team. It was just a fun event, no judging or scoring, but we got to run 2 different courses, and get a lot of good experience. Emma had a very good time, and so did I. I can’t wait until we start competing for real! Here’s a few pictures, one of Emma getting ready to run, and one of the course that she ran.
In other news, the house is done! I actually started parking my car in the garage yesterday, which was pretty cool. I feel a lot better now knowing that my car is safe from the freak hailstorms that seem to follow me around. And that means that I’ve been able to crank out a lot more knitting now that I’m not spending my evenings cleaning. Not that I wouldn’t do that if I could, since apparently that’s my new favorite past-time, at least that’s what my roomates think.
So I suppose I need to back up my claims of increased knitting with actual results. So here’s the obligatory pictures. I finished my first sock with the Smores yarn, and I also joined the Mason Dixon dishrag craze that seems to be sweeping the knitting blog world by storm. They’re really quite satisfying and quick to crank out.
Well, I better go because Mom (AKA the Knit Nazi…”More Knit for You!”) is pestering me to keep knitting so we have lots of stuff to sell at the artisan fair. Peace Out Knitters.
Wow, I got some knitting done last night, I’m amazed! I came home from work, made a quick dinner, and then it was off to Agility with Ms. Emma. And when I got home, I had a ton of stuff that I had planned to do to get the house cleaner and get my stuff more unpacked, but I decided that I didn’t want to do that. So instead, I rented a movie (Firewall…it was ok…but the ending was totally lame) and knitted. It was so wonderful! I’m working on a bunch of little mini socks to send out with my graduation thank you notes (which are very behind schedule), and am hoping to get the last of those finished up soon, so I can send out these notes. They’re quite fun, and I can finish one in about an hour, so they’re nice and quick. Then after that I think I’m going to come up with some fun projects to start making a dent in my ever growing yarn stash. I actually can fill a basket now!
And what’s a blog post without pictures? So here’s some more sketchy cameraphone pictures (I really need a decent camera, now that I’m not at home, I can’t use my parent’s camera) of Dallas, and the huge pond in my backyard.
I’d like to introduce everyone to the newest canine member of my family, Dallas! I had mentioned last week that I might be adopting a new dog, and after quite a long series of events, I found Dallas, through the help of AZ Schnauzer Rescue. He’s a wonderful 9 month old Schnauzer, with an absolutely wonderful disposition and a sweet heart. He spent most of his life to this point tied to a tree in someone’s yard, and I’m very happy to be able to provide him with a loving home and lots of room to run. He’s a bit bigger than Emma, and the adoption agency thinks that he’s a Standard Schnauzer that might have a big of Giant Schnauzer blood in him. He currently weighs 35 pounds, and I’m not sure how big he will grow to, or if he will grow anymore at all.

He’s completely wonderful and I’m so happy to have adopted him. Emma is getting along great with him, and is very happy to have a companion. Although it’s quite funny to watch their attempts at playing, given their size differences. They romp cautiously, as though they’re trying to figure out the best way to play together to accomodate their respective sizes.
I have more pictures, but haven’t uploaded them from my parent’s camera yet, so look for those soon. And congratulations to Scout for her recent adoption of Gus! Dogs are wonderful aren’t they?
