Yeah, I’m a guy who knits, get over it! 22 Jan 06

So there seems to be a lot of stuff in the news lately about the rising trend of men who knit, or at least the stuff I read seems to have more of these “special interest” pieces. One of my new favorite bloggers, Yarn Boy, posted a link to a Christian forum that featured a discussion on whether or not it’s appropriate to let your sons (and daughters) knit. I read this discussion, and man was some of it flamebait! It was all I could do to keep from registering for yet another forums account so that I could put in my 2 cents, but I withheld my rage.

I’m really ashamed to call myself a Christian and see how these people who claim Jesus Christ as their savior be so judgmental about guys who knit or do other “feminine tasks”. Now let me give credit to a number of posters in this topic who were doing their best to dispell the flamebaiters and show people that knitting is a valuable art and expression of creativity, and that men who knit aren’t automatically gay. But some of those people were so closed minded and set in their perception of gender roles that it’s unbelievable. So I’d like to apologize to those out there who were offended by this post, and let me say that not all Christians are like those people, and that I’m just as hurt by those allegations that knitting is a feminine act that has no place in society. Oh well, sometimes you just have to let such comments pass over your head and just keep making some sweet knits!

In other news, I’m making some good progress on my dog blanket, hopefully I’ll have some more pictures to post sometime. My mom and I spent some time in Village Wools yesterday, because she wanted to buy the beads for her felted purse. It came out so sweet, I can’t wait to make my next big project (it’s a secret, but here’s some hints: apple, nostalgic, 80s, computer, felted). It’s going to be so amazing, but I just have to complete this blanket first!
