Just a few quick notes, since I have a very big and special “Adam’s History in Knitting” post coming up on Wednesday.
- Having a car with a plastic bumper is fantastic. Especially when you get rear-ended at a stoplight and your car suffers no damage, cause your bumper just pops back into place with no dents. I was very happy about this, especially since I was on my way to buy yarn and if I had to get my car fixed, well that would have shot the yarn budget.
- The Apple Store Albuquerque opens on Wednesday! An Apple Store and my knitting anniversary on the same day? Needless to say, I will be at said store very early, camping out in the line so that I can receive a free shirt and whatever other swag the generous Apple employees choose to bestow upon us humble Mac users.
- My parents have closed on their old house, and will close on their new house tomorrow morning. Let the moving fun begin! (Or not…)
- Remember, there’s still FREE Shipping on all the yarn in the etsy shop through tomorrow! That’s $4.05 you get to keep for yourself!
- I have restocked on base yarns, and will be spending future evenings in the kitchen with lots of scientific equipment, creating some very cool new colorways that are floating around in my head.
- There’s still plenty of knitting going on at my house, but Christmas surprises forbids me from taking pictures. So be warned, November might be filled with posts of dog pictures, rather than knitting pictures. Please forgive me in advance.
That’s it for now, I gotta make like an atom and split! (Hahahahahaha, I’m so funny! I can’t stop laughing!…Please, beat me now)

Well I suppose it’s official, I’m really an adult now. I mean I would have called myself an adult, what with all the recent “coming of age” events in my life, i.e. graduating college, getting a job, going to grad school. But up until this point, I didn’t really feel like one. But along comes another “coming of age” event, and well this one’s a bit different. My parents are moving, and I was up at their house the other night to pick up some stuff and go through the garage sale pile to claim any good stuff. And I had a “Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore” moment.
It’s just such a bizarre feeling to see your parents leave the house you grew up in; and an even more bizarre feeling when your Mom gives you all the stuff that she saved from when you were a kid…like your pinewood derby 3rd place trophy and your baby blanket. I mean, I remember being a kid and seeing my parents go through this, and I never really thought anything of it until now. I’m not sad per se, I’m really happy to see my parents start this new chapter of life in a new house, it’s just very different feeling. I suppose that for so many years, I’ve acted like an adult, but now I realize that I really am one. Now if only I could convince the clerk in the grocery store of this fact…then maybe they wouldn’t have to get the manager to ok my ID when I buy beer.

So it’s Socktoberfest, and I have some recently finished socks, some socks on the needles and more socks planned in my notebook. The only thing that I’m lacking is a sweet pair of shoes to show off my socks. And this is where you come in. :) I’m looking for a pair of shoes that will be good for winter and will allow me to show off my sweet socks in style.
So far I’ve found these “Birkenstock Approved” Clogs (I’m thinking that means they’re knockoffs), but I’m not quite sure I’m a Birkenstock kinda guy. I think that’s more Stephanie’s forte. And these shoes aren’t exactly wet weather ready…
I also like these Merrell Jungle Mocs. They’d be good shoes for wearing to work and campus, and they’d go with my work attire of jeans and nice shirt well.
I don’t think I’m too much of a Crocs guy, they might get worn around the house, but I don’t think I’m up for wearing plastic shoes around town. EDIT (10/17): Just discovered these Croc Endeavors and they actually look pretty nice. I never really dug the whole holes in the top thing on the other styles, but I like this style a lot. I hear that Crocs are pretty comfy, and they’d definitely show off my socks. And they’re in my budget, a big plus.
So do you have any other suggestions? Maybe you have a pair of shoes that you like for yourself (if you’re a guy knitter) or that your husband/son/boyfriend likes for wearing with handknit socks (if you’re a girl knitter). Let me know, you could be the one who picks my winter shoes!
Oh, and Emma wants to show you her new haircut. She actually likes it, she’s just making the face because I’m making her pose. Ever the diva.
"I don’t want to pose! You can’t make me!"

Alright, here’s my entry to the virtual fieldtrip, but I’m cheating a little bit. Since my Mom’s favorite non-knitting pastime is gardening, she absolutely refused to let me take pictures of her “dormant garden”, and instead gave me a bunch of pictures from the summer when the garden was in full bloom. So you get to see my family’s house when it’s in its best condition!
