in which i spew randomness 20 Jul 06

Today is somewhat random…and so I’m going to make a list to jot down the googol of thoughts swimming around in my brain.

  1. bureacracy is frustrating. especially when your security clearance application gets returned after waiting for 3 months because someone lost a form, and you have to start the whole hurry up and wait process all over.

  2. my stash is dwindling, as I’ve made a new hat and quite a few Mason Dixon Washrags (why are they so darn addicting?)…I think a stash stocking trip is order. or SEX* as some dirty minded knitters would call it.

  3. le chantilly brownies have to be the best ever. it was definitely the highlight of my day to enjoy one after lunch.

  4. in a completely undisguised and overt attempt at comment whoring I’ve moved the comment link to a more prominent location, and added a pestering message. if this desperate subtle hint doesn’t work, I may have to put hyptonizing music or videos on the site.

  5. I renewed my long dormant eMusic subscription (now that I have money) and downloaded some good indie tunes, including Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case and Ryan Adams. rock on.

  6. I have a very cool idea for a new pattern swimming around in my head and on the pages of my infamous notebook. I call the concept “knitting fusion”. more info to follow when the idea is more real and less ethereal.

  7. having a garage is probably the single most amazing thing that’s happened to me this year. the very thought of being able to walk into the garage and get in my car or bring in groceries without getting wet when it’s raining it’s simply mindblowing. I’m sure the family of the man who invented the garage is filthy stinking rich, like the people who invented ziploc bags or tin foil.

  8. I’ve been reviewing my signals theory books today, and studying such wonderful things as discrete fourier transforms, aliasing, the nyquist-shannon theorem and the hilbert transform, to name a few. riveting stuff I tell ya. (I know it might sound boring to you, but I really do love it!)

*SEX = Stash Enrichment Expedition. Don’t ask me, I didn’t come up with it.

Ok, that’s about it. Now there are a ( googol - 8 ) thoughts flying around in my head, at least it’s somewhat of an improvement.

Back and Speedier Too! 05 Jun 06

Well I finally got everything back up and running smoothly. I didn’t get a chance to get the database and stuff uploaded to the new service before leaving for Nebraska, and unfortunately there’s not Internet when attending a wedding that takes place in the middle of a cornfield. But things work now, and they seem faster to me, which is good :) How about you? Does the site move a bit quicker now? Let me know in the comments.

At any rate, it’s getting late and I have to go to work (in just a few hours now I suppose), so I’m going to catch some shut-eye. Let me warn you against driving to NE from Albuquerque if you absolutely can avoid it, it’s a long drive for sure.

Moving in Progress 31 May 06

Well, what the heck? Let’s move the server now! I’m not only attempting to move into a new house next week, but I’m also going to move servers too. I might as well, and I’m bored, so I took the plunge.

Ergo, the blog may not be available for a few days, but that’s probably quite normal. I’m going to stop posting to the Yahoo site after this, and import the current blog into my new installation at DreamHost. But I’m sure by Sunday when I return from a wedding in lovely NE, things will all be ironed out.

Until then, I bid you adieu for a few days! When I return I’ll have a new house, a new hosting service and updates on secret projects :) Try to handle the intense anticipation.

Just a quick note to say that I’ve tweaked the stylesheet, and most of the display issues with IE on Windows should be fixed now.

Leave a comment if they’re not, or you notice anything wonky.

Also, I’m switching hosting services soon, so if the blog goes down for a day or so, it’s because the DNS is changing over…nothing to worry about.

Time to Dye! 21 Apr 06

Comments

Well, I signed up for Scout and Company’s Dye-O-Rama today, and I’m excited! It should be fun to learn to dye yarn, and use my creative skills to make something sweet for someone else! If you want to sign up, there’s still time left, just click on the button below and sign up!

And now, one of my favorite post styles, the itemized list: (I’ve learned to just embrace my OCD, with the help of Scout)

  1. School Stuff: The real reason I’m writing this post is because I’m procrastinating writing the history assignment that’s due at noon today. I have one 100/500 words, so if I actually sat down and worked on it, it’d take like 15 more minutes, but I have chronic senioritis these days. Oh well, only 2 more weeks to go!!!!!!!!!! I sent out my Graduation Announcements yesterday, and I’m getting very excited that I’m actually graduating! Although I do fear that the day will come and I’m going to wake up and still be a Freshman. On Easter, my cousin took my official graduation picture, with Emma and I, and so I thought I’d post it here for your enjoyment.

  2. Blog Stuff: Thanks for the votes on my blog speed poll, I think I’ve offically decided that Yahoo is very very slow. (What can you expect for $9 / month?) So once I’m done with school and have some more time, I’m going to switch hosting services, and hopefully that will go smoothly and the blog will be quicker from then on.

  3. Knitting Stuff: I’m almost done with the very-long sock ordeal, and have finished the gusset decreases on my first sock. I’m thinking of switching knitting methods for the 2nd sock, because I’m so very slow at the whole DPN thing. I’ve gotten the hang of it and I’m not getting poked anymore, but it’s just slow going. I’m thinking of trying either magic loop or 2 circs, with some Addi Turbos. Any thoughts? How do you knit your socks? Then after I’m done with the socks I think I’m going to make myself a Topi, from the latest edition of Knitty. I really like these style of hats and it looks like a good pattern. Then, who knows what I’ll do? Depending on how the 2nd sock goes, I may attempt a fancier pair with some Koigu, but we’ll see ;)

Well, I should get that assignment done now, I suppose ;) Then it’s off to work, but there might be a stop at Village Wools along the way!
