Buy Some Yarn, or the Schnauzers Get It! 24 Apr 07

Comments

Just a quick post to say that I did update the shop yesterday, and there’s still some goodness to be had, so go grab it while it’s hot! The colorways pictured are still available (lots of Project Spectrum goodness!), both in my 900 MHz Mega Merino and 900 MHz Mini Merino. What is this you ask? Well now I’m offering my sock yarn in both mega and mini versions, both of which are still 100% Superwash Merino. The Mega Merino comes in 450 yard skeins, so you’ll have plenty for a big pair of socks, or some socks and wristwarmers! And the Mini Merino are just like little skeins of crack…Each skein has 190 yards, so they’re the perfect size to make some anklets, or buy two to make a larger pair of socks! Did I mention that the Mini Merino skeins are the same base yarn as Koigu? ;)

Still There!

Also, I’m excited to introduce a new Yarn Nerd feature, called Create Your Skein. Basically it’s a cool new way to do a custom colorway, or order an existing colorway in whatever base yarn you want. All you do is browse through the Yarn Nerd color gallery, pick your colors (up to 5 for a custom skein), and checkout. Then I’ll dye up your custom skein and send it out within a week. So simple, yet so dangerous. I currently have 2400 MHz Worsted wool in stock, and a new yarn that I am excited to offer: 1500 MHz Nylon, a 90/10 Superwash Merino/Nylon blend. It’s so soft, I pet it everytime I walk into my office…

Anyway, that’s the Yarn Nerd scoop these days, so go on over and check out what I’ve been cooking up in the kitchen!

PS: Guess what? This week is my last week of “new material” in class! That means no more homework after what’s due this week! The light is getting slightly bigger…although I do have a few take home finals to do first…ugh!

PPS: No Schnauzers were harmed in the writing of this post. I’m just full of empty threats ;)

Mmmm, Yarn! 17 Apr 07

That’s what Dallas was thinking the other day as I was reskeining some yarn! I turned my back for a second and looked over to see him chewing on a freshly wound skein of Raspberry Sherbet. He didn’t eat any of it luckily, but he did manage to completely destroy any hope that poor skein had of ever being knit up into anything. He’s pretty thorough with those teeth!

yarn as a chew toy

Oh well, what can you do eh? He did get a scolding for playing with something he wasn’t supposed to, but I can’t really fault the poor guy, he’s completely out of toys! I need to go to the discount store and buy some more dog toys, since he destroys them as fast as I can buy them! He certainly keeps me on my toes that’s for sure :) And I wasn’t too mad, since it was one of my mini skeins (more info on those to come with the upcoming shop update), so at least it wasn’t a 450 yard skein that was ruined.

And I thought only cats liked yarn!

Things are still chugging along here…the shop update is getting closer to being ready, but school also continues to loom over my head like an anvil. It’s like I told a friend today…I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there’s still a bunch of roadblocks and potholes on the road before I get to the light!

I spent most of this evening trying to figure out how to find the bit error rate for a multi-carrier communications system using repetition codes and majority decoding for BPSK modulated subchannels under flat Rayleigh fading. Any one know the answer to that one? I think I got a solution, but I’m still not entirely sure…which is usually how the homework for this class goes.

Speaking of evening, it seems to have slipped away into night time, and I’m getting tired so I think I’ll hit the hay. I was a bit worried 15 minutes ago, because the water randomly shut off, but it seems to be back on now so I hope it sticks around until the morning. Just another small test to see how close my sanity is to the breaking point I suppose.

Here’s hoping a little sleep will bring me back from that breaking point…just ever so slightly. ;)

Another week already? Jeez! School is just eating me alive these past few weeks. But the light is becoming more visible, only 3 more weeks of class! (I try to number the time this way, rather than by homework assignments and finals, because then I might lose my grip on sanity…)

I did manage to eek out some time in the kitchen yesterday to play with yarn, and the results are quite lovely if I say so myself.

I've been a busy boy!

There’s 30 skeins of Yarn Nerd goodness there, and I have a few more in a new yarn that I might dye up this afternoon. Look for a big shop update around Wednesday or Thursday. If you want to be notified of all the details, just open a Yarn Nerd account, and check the box to receive the newsletter. You’ll be the first to know about the shop update before it goes live, so you can get your favorites before they’re gone!

Well I have to scram, since it’s about time to leave for church, but I figured I’d drop in and let you know that yes I’m still here, and yes there is yarn coming soon. Now it just has to hurry up and dry! :)

Wow, has it really been a week since my last post? Jeez! Things have been totally insane this last week, but it’s finally slowed down a bit, so I’m very thankful for that. I won’t bore you with the details, but just suffice to say that not doing much over Spring Break + 2 Midterms Due on the same day makes Adam a very busy guy.

That fact essentially makes this a fluff post. There’s no real content, so I’m going to distract you with pictures, since that usually seems to work. Here’s some shots from the wedding!

And here’s a fun one, showing off a strange family tradition, that was started by Koury and Victoria. See, they’re always taking pictures of each other, so they started doing this pose where you give a thumbs up, say “Ting!”, and possibly wink. Well, it caught on, and now Ting!, is used for many different things in the family, from greetings, to approvals, to picture poses. Needless to say, we had to do a Ting! shot in our fancy clothes. Someday I’ll enlighten you about our other weird vocab word…hito…but that will require it’s own blog post ;)

Ting!
TING!

I’ll have a more substantial post soon…progress is continuing on my Frankenstein Jaywalkers, especially now that midterm season is over!

Cause I’m certainly ready for it to get here! School has been kicking my butt this week, I’ve had major homework assignments due almost everyday, and I’m working on another big one that’s due tomorrow. I don’t mind too much, since I actually like all my classes this semester, but all this homework does cut into the knitting time…(who am I kidding? I’m in class for 2-3 hours everyday, I get plenty of knitting done!)

Sometimes I wish I could be a dog though…I mean, doesn’t this look like fun?

And after today, I almost got down on the floor with Dallas to help shred the toy. Remember the car accident I was in a few months ago? Well the lady finally got around to filing the claim, and I went to see the adjuster today, only to find out that she’s hired a lawyer and changed her statement…she now claims that the accident was my fault, even though she admitted guilt at the scene. So now that means that this stupid claim will be dragged out over the next few months, along with a special investigation to determine who was really at fault. Ugh. I thought this was already taken care of! Even the claims adjuster said that he thought it was a bit ridiculous that she had called in a lawyer for a small accident. Now that means that I have to get my insurance involved, in case she tries to make a claim against me, and most likely both our companies will end up battling it out over who has to pay what.

That’s about all that’s going on, and I have homework awaiting, so I should get back to it. Oh and it’s 10 PM, so that means it’s tea time at Chez Adam! I think I’ll have Ginger Peach tonight, that should make the homework a bit more pleasant. ;)
