Fibery Day 07 Apr 07

Ah, I love relaxing days that involve lots of fiber. I got in some knitting and picked up some new swag, so it was a very nice Saturday. What’s not to love about a new Go Knit Pouch in Medium, and a keychain designed by John of Yarn Ball Boogie? Both of these lovely items are stocked by the ever-talented Scout, who does bad things for my checkbook, despite being a very kind person. It doesn’t help that Scout lives on the way to the Yarn Store, so it’s super easy to stop off at her house and buy some stuff. Hear that Scout? I’m cutting myself off! (Haha, yeah right!)

I really love my new Go Knit Pouch, because the medium size holds a bigger project, and even the smaller bag at the same time! This way I can carry around 2 projects to satisfy my ADD ;) The project it’s currently holding is a Topi that I’m knitting for my brother Clay, out of my 2400 MHz Worsted Merino in the Project 86 colorway. Now I know what you’re thinking…”jeez he uses his yarn a lot and never updates the shop!“…but I set this skein aside for him a few months ago on request, and I’m just now getting around to the knitting. Plus, it’s really good affirmation to knit with my own yarn just to see how it works up into various projects. Anyway to rationalize saving some for myself eh? ;)

Speaking of Yarn Nerd…I got more yarn in today! Woo-hoo! I’ve been waiting for some more orders for a bit, and they’re starting to come in, so I can get back to dyeing now. School has been particularly busy this semester, but it seems to be slowing down for now, so hopefully a shop update will be ready soon. And summer is coming too, so that means lots of dyeing time.

I did hit 1000 comments yesterday, so one lucky person should be hearing from me soon regarding their lovely gift. Now that I have more yarn to dye, I can provide a worthwhile prize package ;)

Also, go check this out! Dawn just finished a pair of socks with my 1500 MHz Sport Merino in the Bamboo Grove colorway, and they look great! This is the first picture I’ve seen of my yarn knitted up on the Internet, and I’m super excited. If anyone else has pictures of stuff they’ve knit with Yarn Nerd yarn, I’d love to see them!

That’s about all I got for today, I just wanted to give a quick update and show off my new purchases. Also, a commenter in the last post requested an update on my fitness progress, so that’s going to be the next post. Let’s just say that I’m still working at it, even if my schedule has been a bit crazy as of late. I haven’t fallen off the horse per say, I think I’ve just slowed to a trot. At least I’m still on right?

Have a wonderful Resurrection Day everyone! It’s really mind boggling to think that the Sovereign Almighty God came down to earth and died, so that I could have a relationship with Him. It’s not something that I understand or comprehend, but it’s something I can rejoice over, and give worship to God for. My only response is to try to live a life that gives Glory to Him for His namesake. Amen!

After such an amazing weekend, it’s hard for me to really sum up my thoughts and condense a weekend full of emotion and elation into one tiny blog post. But I’ll try my best.

The wedding was beautiful and it was truly an honor to be a part of it and share the role of Best Man along with my little brother Clay. It was a big family affair, with over 250 people in attendance. One of the coolest things about the wedding was how much it meant for my whole family. My Dad is a Pastor and performed the ceremony, which was so very cool. I also don’t think I’ve cried that much in such a long time. When she walked down the aisle and he saw her for the first time that day, he just lost it, and I did too. I cried, my brother cried, my Mom cried and even my Dad cried. It was a very emotional day, not because we were sad, but just because we were so happy for him to be marrying the woman he loves.

They’re truly an amazing couple and I think the only way to truly honor their marriage is to tell you a little bit about them.

My brother Koury is a guy who has always been there for me, and has been my best friend since we were little kids. We’ve always wondering why it is we get along so well, since we’re so different. He’s into sports…me not so much. He and I can’t ever agree on movies or music, and we definitely don’t like the same types of books. He’s all right brain where I’m all left brain. Yet we (along with my little brother Clay) can hang out together, tell each other anything and love each other no matter what. I couldn’t ever fathom not being best friends with both of my brothers, and I’m so proud of both of them. It’s for these reasons and many more that I’m so happy to see him marry his soulmate.

Victoria completes Koury in so many ways, sometimes it’s hard to distinguish them from each other when they’re together. They have their own language when they speak, and they always think and act as one person. I can’t remember a time when he hasn’t been apart from her without talking about her, and saying how much he misses her. She’s a smart, funny girl and she loves my brother with all her heart. Together they love each other and God with a fervor that infects everyone around them.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that 19 is too young to get married and that you can’t know anything at that age with surety. But my response is always that I even though they’re young, they are ready and that they will spend the rest of their lives together. I’ve seen them, and they aren’t just some young kids who are all gaga over each other. They are a rock solid couple who set a standard of maturity and love for one another that some couples who have been married 20 years can’t attain. I also like what my Dad said during the ceremony. He said that people have it backwards, because when you get married young, you get to grow up together and do life together. So that when you hit bumps and craters in the road, you have someone else to count on and go through those rough experiences with you.

Another thing I want to mention briefly is how the ceremony was ended. See, my brother and his wife were virgins yesterday, because they both made a commitment to wait until marriage to have sex. My brother signed a covenant to stay sexually pure until marriage, and Victoria had a ring to represent her commitment to the same. So to end the wedding, and celebrate the completion of their commitment, they placed the framed covenant and the ring in a pillowcase and stomped on them.

I am so proud of them for holding out, and I hope to honor my vow to purity in the same manner. I hope that’s not TMI, but I just couldn’t write the post without mentioning how proud I am of them, for their devotion to each other and willingness to wait for marriage. I think that their marriage will be so much stronger for it.

I just can’t believe that the day finally came and flew by. I’m so proud of them, and I hope to one day meet a girl who will complete me in the same way, and spur me on in my relationship with God in the same way that Victoria does for Koury.

Alright, I think that I’ve expended enough emotion this weekend, and I’m also running on about 6 hours of sleep for the past few nights, so I’m gonna go to bed. Hope that wasn’t too sappy, but I’ve never been afraid to be in touch with my feelings

What We’re Thankful For 23 Nov 06

Quite a lot actually! And here’s my chance to roll out my favorite blogging tool, the venerated and trusty list! So here’s (just a few of) the things I’m thankful for this year.

My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It really boggles my mind that God would choose to love and have a relationship with me, but I’m really amazed by this constantly. Definitely something that I try to be thankful for at all times, but Thanksgiving is a good occassion to be reminded of how good God is to me. Even when things aren’t so good.
My wonderful family! I love my entire family so much and I’m thankful that I have a close family, that I can share my hopes and dreams, as well as frustrations with. Thanks guys!
My beloved dogs, Dallas and Emma. These two rambunctious puppies keep me both stressed and sane at all times of the day. They’re my constant companions and truest friends.
Knitting. I would have never thought one year ago that something I had once considered a hobby for grandmothers would have changed my life so much. It’s so awesome to have an outlet for my creativity, frustrations and excitements. The process of knitting something from a skein of yarn still amazes me everytime.
The Online Commu-knitty. Ok that was bad, sorry. Anyway, I love you guys! Knitting for me wouldn’t have become what is has without the support and encouragement of my fellow bloggers. The same can also be said of my yarn dyeing. Without people to encourage me and help me, and the wonderful people who have given my yarns a home, I wouldn’t have ever ventured down the road of dyeing. Thanks guys (and gals)!

Now, just to spice things up a bit, and to be a sentimental pet owner, here’s the list of what Dallas and Emma are thankful for.

Both: That Dad promised to bring us some Turkey, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy home today! Yippee!
Dallas: Dad just bought us a bunch of new toys! Emma: Except Dallas won’t quit hogging them! Quit it Dallas, Dad says you have to share!
Dallas: That Dad hasn’t tried to knit us sweaters yet, thank goodness for that! Emma: Speak for yourself dork! I love to wear dog sweaters, since I’m always cold!
Both: That Dad lets us sleep in the bed with him, since that floor is not comfy. It’s so much nicer under the covers, even if Dad does get frustrated when we hog the bed.
Both: Did we mention we’re gonna have some turkey today???

Socks Hate Me 15 Apr 06

Ok, so you know how in the last post I was all excited because I had figured out my gauge and was ready to knit a perfect fitting sock? Well, I had the best of intentions, but apparently that doesn’t count for anything these days. I had figured out that I needed to cast on 72 stitches, which is 24 on each needle. Well silly me, when I cast-on, for some reason I was thinking of the heel flap, at which point there are 18 stitches on 2 needles and 36 on the other.

Well I don’t know what happened, but my brain completely malfunctioned, and I cast on 18 stitches per needle, instead of 24. Well needless to say I did all the ribbing and was excited to start the heel flap before I realized my stupid mistake. So this is frog #4 for the great sock attempt of 2006. I’m beginning to get somewhat tired of this, but I have determined to persevere until I have at least one sock done. Then I may or may not give up the whole thing forever, depending on my emotional whim of the moment.

Also, you may have noticed, the blog’s look is changing very rapidly these days. The theme on the blog is getting closer and closer to the theme in my head, so that’s good. There may be a few display issues (the little scroll bar thing for the archives doesn’t work in Firefox as far as I know), so if you have problems, drop a comment so I know what does and doesn’t work. I hope you like the theme, I really do! There’s still a lot more changes to come in the next little bit, so please continue to excuse the mess :)

Well I need to be productive now, since I’ve wasted hours this morning fiddling with the blog’s stylesheet. There’s still graduation announcements to mail, socks to be cast on and homework to be done. Have a great Easter weekend everyone, and remember, He is risen!

Everything is Changing 21 Feb 06

Wow. It’s been a very intense and emotional week. I haven’t posted in a while because of stuff that’s been going on with my family, because we’re going through a very difficult time right now. After 17 years, my Dad resigned from his job at Calvary of Albuquerque, and I resigned my position as well. I don’t want to feed rumors going around or anything, so I can’t say much, just that we felt that God was calling us to move on. This has been a very difficult time for us, because Calvary is our family’s second home. I’ve worked there for many years, my brother works there, and my Dad has faithfully worked there for so long, it’s just been very hard. But sometimes God calls you to sacrifice something that’s extremely dear to you, and you have to take a step of faith and trust that He is in control. So while we are all very sad to be leaving, we are excited to new developments and where God is taking us next.

So that’s what’s been going on in my life this last week in a nutshell. As far as knitting goes, I’m making good progress on my laptop bag. I knitted and felted a swatch with my yarn (Brown Sheep Top of the Lamb) and figured out exactly how big I need to make the unfelted piece. I’m about 50% done with the 18″ x 42″ rectangle for the bag now, and moving along pretty quickly. I’ve come up with a few cool ideas too, I think I want to make a pocket on the outside to put my power adapter in, and I’d also like to make a detachable shoulder strap in addition to the built-in handle. If anyone has any ideas on how to do those things, leave a comment! I’m planning to make just a small rectangle and then sew it onto the bag, probably with some colored thread, to make the pocket. Also I thought it’d be cool to do a long strap that had i-cord edges that maybe could use buttons could to detach or something. Anyway, those are my thoughts, and I’m excited to see this bag come to completion!

I’ll definitely take some pictures soon and put them up, but until then, Auf Wiedersehen!

P.S. I’m not really sure what’s up with the German, but it popped into my head and I thought I should put it there :)
