Let’s just pretend that two weeks hasn’t gone by ok? Moving right along ;)
Anyway, I’ve been up to my usual tricks, including work, homework avoidance and lots of orchestra practice. I had a big concert this past weekend, featuring some of the most difficult music I’ve ever played in an ensemble. Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances may sound nice, but man is that thing a beast! The tempo is pretty much the equivalent of a Mack truck barreling down the highway at 120 MPH. In the end though, I got most of the notes, so I was fairly pleased with myself.
As far as knitting goes, I have no proof I’m actually knitting anything, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. My primary project right now is top secret, but the big reveal should be soon. I also have a lovely sock going, but at this blogging speed, you’ll probably see a finished sock by the time I get around to the pictures.
I had a small Yarn Nerd shop update last week, including a lovely new merino/bamboo/nylon yarn I’ve termed 900 MHz Bambylon. (Try to type that 10 times fast!) The small batch I put up went fairly quickly, but I will have more on the way soon, so don’t despair, there’s plenty of bamboo yarn action to be had.
Also, I will be receiving a shipment of some new yarns soon, including a Superwash Merino DK Weight and a Merino Sport Weight. Both yarns are absolutely lovely, and the DK Weight is a great replacement for my older 1500 MHz Merino base, which I had to discontinue. So look for a future shop update with those yarns, I think you’ll really like them!
I’ve been fighting off a bit of a bug this week, and so I whipped up some soup to soothe my tempestuous stomach. Nothing like a delicious chicken and rice soup made with wild rice and rotisserie chicken to cure what ails you.
Thankfully, I’m mostly on the mend, save for a pesky sore throat that just won’t go away. I wouldn’t mind if the deep sexy voice stayed around for a bit longer though. Anyway, it’s a good thing I’m feeling better, since I’m off on another snow excursion this weekend.
I think a weekend spent ripping up the mountain with my Dad, Uncle and little Brother will definitely do me good. Maybe not my throat, but definitely my inner ski bum. You gotta shirk that responsibility and play everyone once in a while right?
So whatever you’re doing this weekend, make sure to take a least a few moments and let our your inner bum. Lay around, knit a bit, watch TV or just sleep in a little longer. Because all work and no play turns Jack into a raving lunatic.

Hi!
Couldn´t resist being the first… Just wanted to say I recently found your blog and now I can´t wait to see your next knitting projects. You are a true inspiration to me! Happy skiing! Marika
Ooh - love that shot of the stacked yarn!
And I’ve got a great recipe for a ginger chicken soup that uses rotisserie chicken. It’s awesome.
Hey you ski bum…ski a couple runs for your old mom!!! Don’t forget the sunscreen…once a mom always a mom!
I’m going to be horribly responsible and try to get my taxes done. That and pore over a recipe book for some new recipes.
Oh you are so lucky, skiing…. I really miss being close to snow sports. I know you don’t know me, but I use to live in NY in the middle of four ski slopes, now live in NC. Are you real close to where you go skiing? That soup looks delicious.
Hugs!!!!
The Polovtsian Dances definitely do sound amazing, but I can imagine how much of headache it would have been to learn that! I’m heading off to a conference Sunday morning so you can guarantee I’m being lazy up until then!! It’s nice to know I’m not alone on that one…
So, you’re a knitter, spinner, dyer, etc. that I don’t know about yet (that makes $$ off what he loves to do) AND a cook! What a man!!!
I am shirking responsibility tomorrow, real responsibility. Tomorrow I am going to be a finisher. I hope you have fun skiing with your fam! And you might switch to tea for a bit. I find that coffee tends to make my throat sad if it’s sore…but that could just be me…
holy crap. how do you find the time to do all of that?
oh, chicken soup with rice. remember that song? I loved Really Rosie.
Hope you have a good skiing trip and feel better soon. I have been resisting casting on the Emerald City (oh, my, what yarn!), but I’m going to finish the baby blanket this weekend (or not) and cast on!
I read a lot of blogs and I have two favorites. You are one. I hope you shake that sore throat.
Do you ever get that big adrenaline high after concerts? or is it just me?
Have fun skiing! Can’t wait to see the super secrete project…ohhhh the suspense!!!!
Again, so jealous on the skiing. That’s the part of winter I love…and miss. This weekend is all about low-key relaxing for me - my weeks sounds as crazy as yours was!
I’m working this weekend. Both days. I worked last weekend too, and I’ll work next weekend. It wouldn’t be so bad if everyone at work wasn’t so CRANKY.
Kat says it’ll get worse before it gets better. I need a vacation.
Hope you had fun skiing. Tell you dad and bro I said hi!
Ooh new yarns? I’ll have to remember to stalk the shop then. I love the idea of letting my inner bum out. But hubby’s working his hind end off so I’m feeling a big guilty about slacking. Not necessarily enough to stop slacking of course…
hmm..definitely did all of that this weekend, plus some skiing! i should be a bum more often!
You know I’m always down for being a ski bum! Hope you’re feeling better!
I would have got some of the bambylon but I already had the colorways in the merino sock. Ah well. Next time. Hope you’re feeling better!
i had a bug that held on until it was finally zapped with an antibiotic (which, to my shame, had been prescribed a month before ….). skiing! i can do that! uphill at least
i didn’t realize you had a bamboo blend in the works. i have been a lazy blogger (seduced by ravelry).
take care,
d
I’ve been not blogreading for a while (!) in order to finally finish the last toques (which I report with giddy excitement I have DONE!) so I’m finally catching up. The yarn is beautiful, I love the colors…and the soup? I applaud you. Now, it’s NOT MY genuine-Jewish-Mother-Bubbe homemade chicken soup AKA Yiddish Penicillin, which has (according to my daughter) Miraculous Healing Qualities, but a) it does look absolutely delish, and wild rice enhances anything, and I think you’re frightful clever for using a rotisserie chicken; and b) that looks like a really beautiful BOWL! I’m an unashamed bowl-fancier. Hope you had a WONDERFUL time on the slopes, and if you still have a bit of the Scratchy Craw, try a nice cup of hot lemonade with a good dollop of honey stirred in. It’s soothing, the vitamin C is good for you, and the honey’s a little knock of “NRG”. Carry on!
