Lather, Rinse, Repeat. 03 Oct 07

Well, it appears that it’s high past time for a new blog post, as evidenced by my family’s gentle chiding. ;)

Truth is, I got nothing. Nothing that seems particularly exciting to blog about that is. Life is just chugging along, humming with the day to day routine: wake up, ride to work, work, ride home, make dinner, watch TV & knit, pack bags for commute, and go to bed. Repeat. This is not necessarily a bad thing as I’m a creature of routine, so I rather enjoy the doldrums of daily life. But sometimes you just need a bit of something special to spice things up, you know?

Like some tasty Pumpkin beer and yarn to match.

pumpkin yarn + beer = fiberlicious

Quite fiberlicious eh? It’s a new colorway dyed specifically to evoke my deep love for everything Pumpkin, and it certainly makes me happy. It’ll be present in my next shipment to the Loopy Ewe, so you can get yourself some too.

The yarn also serves as a reminder that no matter how much I may have gushed about the arrival of Fall, the devil is in the details, and those details involve colder weather. Ergo, my leg hair isn’t quite cutting it as insulation against the cold morning air. Not one to be deterred, I went out and bought a few Fall commuting essentials.

Let’s just say, you may now call me Captain Spandex. Don’t ask for a picture, cause you’re not getting one ;) I just think it’s really funny that when I started biking my mantra was “no spandex, no way”, and now I’m sporting some tights of my own. I guess it really is function over fashion!

Ok, enough rambling. Sorry for the lame post, but I promise I have some better material coming soon. It’s Socktoberfest after all. :)

Woohoo for the spandex! It’s soo -80s! You can always pretend you’re wearing rockspandex instead of bikespandex! :)

I’m having the exact same blogproblem as you. Nothing much to write about. I’ve had so much stuff going on around me, that I haven’t managed to finish anything. I had to squeeze out a short post just to keep my Secret Pal group mom happy. I was really looking forward to a lot of fall knitting, but I don’t know where it’s hiding right now. I need to get back into the knitting rut!

Oh, come now. Spandex certainly has its place! True… that place was 20 years ago, but who’s counting?

    ORANGE! I love the orange!!!!!!

  4. 4 Nichole D.

I’m not a big beer drinker, but pumpkin ale calls my name! I love all things pumpkin, too. The yarn looks awesome, as usual! Orange used to be my favorite color, and is still in the top three.

Is all the pumpkiny goodness off to TLE? Maybe there’s a skein lying around, maybe one fell behind the couch? And maybe I could make, maybe, a superwash handspun Nerdy yarn? (And I do mean Nerd-y. Surely you’ve seen it - maybe you have it…but isn’t it easier if someone else does it for you? Heheheh….)

I love that orange! Did you see the list of ten pumpkin recipes on Yahoo yesterday?

    Beautiful, beautiful yarn.

I made a similar spandex rule when I started running in Boston some years ago. When the first winter hit, I was pretty miserable until I made a compromise with myself… no shiny spandex.

    :)

Whatever works to keep you warm and healthy!

Mmm, delicious pumpkin…either ale or yarn or pie or etc.

Now I have the Men in Tights song stuck in my head.

We’re men (manly men!) We’re men in tights…

Heh. I think the pumpkin beer from Socorro Springs is massively better than the Blue Moon. But that would be a long ride on the bike, non?

I’m so glad to hear someone give a good review of the new seasonal. I’ve been a little afraid to try it myself. Perhaps I will bite the bullet? Yummy yarn.

You won’t see me posted pics of Z in spandex either. Although… that gives me a great idea for his Halloween costume! :-)

    Loving the pumpkin.

  12. 12 kelp!

Captain Spandex! Sounds like a Halloween costume to me. And I’m hearting that orange yarn, it makes me crave cider and, of course, some pumpkin beer.

  13. 13 Rosemary

I still remember the all-pumpkin meal that you made for us down in Socorro. :) If you need some excitement, you should come over to our house for dinner. We will give you a call soon.

LOVE the orange yarn…and the pumpkin beer sounds good too. Of course, in the Northeast, where it SHOULD be fall right now (and celebrated with things like apple-picking) it’s now 85 degrees. Sigh.

  15. 15 Mom

Thanks for the new reading material…it was about time ya know! There are some great things about fall…the only downside is that Winter comes after fall, and you know how I feel about winter! Everything is dead and brown, and very cold…YUCK Not that I have anytime to garden or knit… O well, bike on Captain Spandex!!!

That orange color is beautiful. Go pumpkins! =)

I know what you mean about the doldrums of daily life. I like my routine, too. I’ve met “What have you been up to?” with a blank stare one too many times. Umm, I knit a lot last night?

Very pretty yarn! I need to find some pumpkin beer, too.

I love me some Blue Moon but if you have a taste for pumpkin ale you HAVE to try Cottonwood’s instead. It’s a hundred times better.

heehee. spandex. what color? when i was in 5th grade my friend had a pair of bright blue spandex pants and i was so jealous of them.

love the pumpkin yarn! i don’t know about pumpkin beer though. my love for pumpkin pretty much ends with the color.

  20. 20 knittingphilistine

yeah. you know how i feel about this stuff. the yarn really did turn out perfectly. makes me want to run through leaves and eat punkin pie!

  21. 21 tiennie

Gorgeous pic! I’m in love with that color!

  22. 22 Heather

When are you going to dump the whole grad school drill and go full time with the yarn empire? This profession is conspiring against those of us who just want to be knitting all the time, you know?

  23. 23 vicki

Pumpkin beer, never had any, what is it like? the yarn is divine! My favourite colour right now, everything I buy or dye is orange or variations there of!

  24. 24 chris

what about knitting up some pumpkin-y leg warmers?!?!

  25. 25 JulieFrick

pumpkins! pumpkins! we all shout huzzah!!!

  26. 26 lisa

Hey Cap’n… love that orange yarn! Do you want a recipe for Baked whole pumpkin? You basically hollow out the pumpkin and fill it up with custardy ingredients, bake it, and scoop out pumpkin meat with the custard. If you like pumpkin pie, you’ll like it. Email me and I’ll send it back to you.

  27. 27 Opal

Pumpkin beer? Now that does sound like it takes a zing to the ol’ routine.
