Monday Bites Back 20 Feb 07

So just when I thought I had cured my case of the Monday’s with some handknit socks and copious amounts of coffee, Monday decided to bite me on the butt.

I went down to UNM for my afternoon class, and found a rare parking spot on a side street that has no parking restrictions (!). I was quite happy as I walked to class, plus I arrived early and got a good amount of knitting in during class. Well, my bubble was just bound to burst…and when I walked back to my car I found that my glove box had been ripped out of the dashboard and was laying on the floor. I quickly checked to see what was missing, and found that my beloved iPod nano was gone. :(

I must have forgot to lock the car (I swear, that never happens!), because there were no signs of breaking in. A would be thief must have walked by, seen the tape adapter in the cassette deck and decided it was his lucky day. Unfortunately for me, that means that sessions at the gym will be much less entertaining until I can afford a new iPod. But at least that was all that’s taken, and my glove box is definitely repairable, all it needs is a new lock and maybe some hardened steel reinforcement.

So I went home, refusing to let Monday get the best of me.

I had yarn to wind, a seemingly normal activity…but Monday struck again! I wasn’t paying attention (that happened a lot yesterday) while I was winding a skein out of a center pull ball with my electric skeinwinder, and that’s when Monday got me. The one ball suddenly morphed into two balls, which began to rotate around each other like two binary stars.

Needless to say, that became a giant tangled mess in about 2.1 seconds. I tried to untangle it for about 15 minutes but it was futile, and I had to cut off the tangled part. I figured that it was unsellable, but lo and behold it was actually 380 yards! Only 40 yards short of what it should have been, so it could have been much worse.

Plus, my Monday misfortune is now your Tuesday good fortune! I’m going to offer the aforementioned skein at a discount to the first commenter who wants it, for only $19.00. It’s 380 Yards of 900 MHz Sock Merino, in the Berry-licious colorway. Even though it’s not my standard yardage, it is still plenty for a nice pair of socks, as long as you don’t have hobbit feet. Here are my lovely (and uncooperative) models to show it off for you.

enough with the yarn! "whatever are you doing papa?"
Emma: "I’ll get you for this…" / Dallas: "Huh, what?"

Get it while it’s hot people! If you’re the first commenter to claim the skein, I send you a Paypal invoice for $19.00 + $4.05 shipping, easy as that.

Here’s hoping that Tuesday is a lot better than Monday :-/

    Sold!

Oh, I should mention as well that no yarn was harmed by dog hair in the above photos. That’s the advantage to having dogs who don’t shed…the yarn stash doesn’t get all coated with dog hair. ;)

Adam! Your yarn arrived in this evening’s mail (we get it late). It is LOVELY!!! Thank you so much! Sorry you had a crappy Monday. I had a tape deck taken out of my car in the 1980’s, by a neighbor, I knew who it was but couldn’t prove it. So I traipsed over there, he claimed oh yeah, he had that, bought it from some white guy for $20. And he’d only give it back to me when I gave him the $20. Another time? Parked the car on the island in the Susquehana River, put the kiddo in the backpack, walked into Harrisburg. On our way back I was looking for my key. Last place I saw it? When I locked the car door. And it was STILL THERE! So, go figure. Some days are lucky, some just aren’t. Hope your Tuesday is luckier than your Monday!

So sad about your nano~ Could have been worse, you could have left you keys in the ignition with the engine running like I did once. The whole time I was shopping I had a nagging feeling that I had forgotten to do something… Thank the Lord my car was still there when I got back to it. Where was my brain??? I must have left it at home! Needless to say I went straight home as I did not think it was safe for me to be driving that particular day.

Sorry to hear Monday bit so hard. Good that it was only the ipod and the car is still ok, but that does stink. The Berry-licious colorway is pretty. Looking forward to seeing what you’re going to post at the end of the week.

oh no!!!!!! that’s such a terrible feeling. about 6 years ago my apartment door was kicked in while i was out (on a date w/ mr yarn pirate) and they took EVERYTHING. they even took my awesome vintage star treck pillow case to haul off my stuff in. you’ve got to get more yarn posted so you can raise money for a new ipod! i used to poo-poo the ipod, but now that i have one…i don’t think i can live without it. when is your next shop update? i’ll spread the word.

I received my “winning” Tour de France yarn yesterday–it’s fabulous! The colors are so clear and vibrant. I can’t wait to get it swatched and select the perfect pattern for it. Thanks!

I’m probably too late for that delicious Berry-licious, but if not, I’d be interested.

Glad you got that yucky Monday out of the way. Clear sailing now….
