Running With Music, Not Scissors 18 Jan 07

Comments

So school has started, and I’m starting to settle into a rhythm with my schedule. I’ve made it a big goal to cook healthy meals as often as possible, and it’s been paying off thus far. I feel a whole lot better and am running farther everyday. Here’s my progress towards Runagogo thus far:

Jan. 17, 2007

I’m hoping to close in on 20 miles by the end of the weekend!

Warning! There is a lack of blogging material ahead. Author will attempt to fill a post with music instead of pictures and actual content. Please use caution when continuing!

Some people have asked for this, so here’s a list of some of the music I’m grooving to while running these days:

  • Andrew Bird - This guy is amazing. He’s a classically trained violinist turned indie rocker, and his sound is so unique. His music combines violin, whistling and other cool compositions in ways I’ve never heard before. It’s pretty chill and is nice when I’m running longer intervals because it gives me a good pace.
  • Arcade Fire - Another indie fave, I really love the song Crown of Love. The violin and guitar combo at the end is amazing.
  • Muse - This band is my crazy music when I need something to keep me going. Their beats are nice and fat and get pretty frenetic. Good stuff!
  • Okkervil River - Very dark and brooding, yet so expansive and complex. This band is like a very stout beer or a piece of bittersweet chocolate. It’s kick you in the crotch good.
  • Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Just as funky as the name, this another great band that keeps me going and helps me focus on something other than my aches.
  • Starflyer 59 - One of my long time favorites, I can always count on Starflyer to give me something fun and catchy to workout to.
  • U2 - My all-time favorite band, I can always count on Bono to inspire me and make me feel like I’m running for the good of humanity.

Those are some of my favorites, albeit some esoteric ones. What do you like listening to? And don’t worry, I’ll still talk to you if you say Justin Timberlake. Well, maybe.

And the internets break into resounding cheers, because Jack Bauer is back! That’s right, in less than 15 minutes, Day 6 of 24 premieres! I can hardly wait I’m so excited! I’ve been waiting for a 24 fix ever since that wretched cliffhanger back in May…it’s so unfair of Fox to leave us hanging for that long! I might not even get any knitting in, that’s how intense this premiere will be. Did I mention it’s 2 hours tonight and 2 hours tomorrow night?

I did manage to get some Saturday Sunday Sky pictures from the Petroglyphs National Monument today. I figure that such lovely pictures a day late are worth more than a crummy picture of a cloud and the tree in my front yard on time.

I’ve lived in Albuquerque all my life and I still get goosebumps when I see this view. The Sandias were in top form today, complete with snowy caps! And that brown house belongs to my parents, aren’t you jealous of their view? Happy Knitting and remember,

warm and cozy cricket
that’s some cute Eye Candy Friday!

Howdy there! Cricket sends her greetings from the land of snow and ice! She’s warm and cozy in her sweater :) We might even get more snow this weekend! I think we’re stuck in the twilight zone or something…

Hope you’re having a lovely Friday, mine’s been pretty good as far as Friday’s go. It is a bit sad since it’s my last free weekend before school starts :( Oh well, at least that means more knitting time! That might seem illogical, but I knit during my classes, so that’s another 2-3 hours per day. And it’s not rude, I promise! Knitting actually helps me focus my wandering mind so that I can concentrate and take notes. Sounds odd, but that’s how my mathematical mind works.

Anywhoo, I just wanted to pop in and say hi. There’s lots of news percolating on the yarn dyeing front…I’m extremely close to launching the new site/store, and will be spending this weekend covered in dye getting ready. I can’t wait!

Chugging Along 10 Jan 07

Ok, I’m starting to get over my Macworld hangover (iPhone and Apple TV! Sigh.) and figured it was time for an update post.

I’m chugging along towards my Runagogo and Fitness goals, and starting to see some good results. I’ve even lost 2 pounds. I try not to get excited about that, because I usually shed 5 pounds in the first week of starting exercise and then plateau for another week or two before losing more. But I’m still undeterred and am feeling really good as a result of the exercise.

I’ve also been able to summon some form of willpower and have been doing well with food as well. It’s really not too hard, all I’m doing is making a conscious effort to eat more whole grains, fruits, veggies and less sugars, bad fats and almost no processed foods. Oh and avoiding the sodium too, since that’s bad for my blood pressure. Any other suggestions on eating right? What works for you? I’ve gotten lots of good feedback already (thanks everyone!), but I’m always up for any more helpful hints.

So far I’ve run/walked a total of 8.3 miles and am well on my way to meeting my 100 mile goal for April 1. If you been thinking of signing up for Runagogo, there’s still time, so go do it! And as a side bonus, you get to use the nifty progress tracker that I whipped up for the site with my super coding skills. See? Is it not nifty? (And yes, I’m a super nerd cause that was a Sluggy Freelance reference. If you don’t know what that is, then you still have a fighting chance at a normal life. Don’t squander it!)

tuesday's running digs
my parent’s exercise room, and last night’s running digs. swanky, no?

Maybe when I’m all trim in a few months, I’ll pose naked with some yarn. Just kidding! Got your attention, didn’t I Violet?

Oh, I also snapped this picture last night, aren’t parents cute?

aren't they cute?
is it sad that it was only 9:30 and I almost feel asleep too?

Finally, I finished a sock! Now I just have to start the other one. But that won’t be a problem, because I love this yarn! The colors are gorgeous and it’s a dream to knit with. It’s Yarn Pirate Superwash Merino in the colorway Malamute, hand-dyed by the talented Georgia. I love this sock so much, and it fits great!

Wow, that was an ADD post! I’ll try to cut back on the coffee…but it’s so tasty…

Now I just have to wait until June. :(

And yes, I realize I’m crazy, but I’m ok with it. Being an Apple fanboy is lots of fun!
