Wii-licious! 06 Jan 07

Oh yeah, I have a new love. My little brother just bought himself a Nintendo Wii, along with a copy of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, and I’m smitten. I was over at my parents house and played the Wii for an hour and a half. And I was active the whole time! It’s such an amazing concept for a video game to be interactive like that, and I was blown away. You actually swing the controller to swing your sword in the game. I was giddy like a schoolgirl and my brother took some pictures of me in my nerdy state. It’s a nice change of pace to be able to play a video game and not just sit there like a couch potato. I’m sure I’ll be making a lot more visits to my parents house before school starts… ;)

oh yeah, I'm playing with a wii - 2 this is your website on wii.

Hey look, it’s my blog on the Wii!

Speaking of exercise, I’ve been to the gym twice since Thursday now, and have racked up 11.3 miles towards Runagogo. On Thursday night I went at 6PM (never doing that again) and had to use the bike for a bit since all the treadmills were full. I got in 8 miles on the bike and 1 mile on the treadmill. Then I went this morning and did 2.3 miles on the treadmill. It feels really good to exercise, and thanks for all your encouraging comments on the last post! I can’t wait to see the results as I work towards my fitness goals. And now I know why Wendy always has such good blog fodder…those gym people are crazy! I mean, like they need medication crazy. I never knew you could fit so many intense people into one room without the universe imploding. So lots of interesting gym stories to come I’m sure.

There was also sock knitting going on at my parent’s last night, but not by me. It’s my Mom’s first sock, check it out! Not shabby eh? It looks a whole lot better than my first sock. The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Birches. It’s perched on top of the GoKnit pouch I gave her for Christmas, to tide her over until the Garden Shawl is done. I better get cracking though, she keeps leaving comments on here pestering me to knit more ;)

mom's first sock!

I’ll leave you today with a Saturday Sky picture that I took last week. This is the view from my parent’s street, looking out at the Sandias and the rest of Albuquerque. Lovely view isn’t it? Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

even the west side got snow! - 5

That’s great about the exercise. Somehow I need to be doing this too. I really wish we had a Wii and some kind of pedometer program like the thing for the iPod. But my iPod is too old for that. I suppose I should just do it. After I get rid of this nasty cold I have.

Don’t forget to “feel” the results too. If you keep track of your energy levels, I’m sure you’ll find that they’re going up and that’s its own reward. Because the physical change can be slow, you have to find other stuff to keep you going! On the other hand, maybe physical activity has a faster impact on guys.

I played on the Wii for the first time at New Year’s, and I totally want one. I did the bowling on Wii sports, but I didn’t realize you had to swing the sword for Zelda. That’s so cool. Another game related exercise program is Dance Dance Revolution. The workout part also keeps up with how many miles you’ve gone, so it could be a good change from just walking or jogging. Good luck with the exercise!

Wii!! I’ve heard that’s becoming addicting! Just make sure things don’t go flying away when you’re swinging your sword! ;)

Your Mom is doing great on her sock! I got that yarn in a trade, so thanks again for a preview of what’ll look knit up! :)

Your Saturday sky photo is so lovely! It’s the only snow I’ve seen so far, in photos! Imagine, snow in New Mexico and 72 degrees in Massachusetts. Weird winter so far. :)
    Have fun with the Wii!

    Hey Adam,

So glad to see you are still going to the gym…do some laps for your old mom while you at it!
I’ve got a treadmill, a bow-flex, and an exercise bike, but somehow I can’t seem to find the time to get in a good workout! My sock looks pretty cool on your web site…I can’t wait to finish it.
The Wii has become quite popular, we had 18 peope come over for our marriage class last night, and after it was over everyone tried out the Wii. It was very amusing watching everyone flail around the den as they tried it out! It was alot of fun! Is my shawl done yet???

    Love ya~Mom
