A Little Teaser 31Jan07

a little teaser

Are you salivating yet?

Thought I’d give you another little teaser. Got February 5 marked on the calendar? I know I do!

In other news, I’ve seen this meme floating around and I figured it’s high time I participated. That’s right, you get to learn 6 weird things about me! However, before I start, I need to preface things with a little explanation.

See I’m an engineer, so there’s a lot more than 6 weird things about me. There’s probably like 40. But for the sake of not appearing completely crazy by revealing all my idiosyncrasies I narrowed the list down to just 6. If you’re still confused, check out the video below. My parents sent it to me…is that a hint?

Without further ado, 6 weird things about me are:

  1. I have a lot of weird issues with numbers. I see mathematical relationships in all kinds of things. I can remember a phone number without ever dialing it, and can also tell you the exact amounts of money that I have spent throughout the day. I also remember license plate numbers fairly often, and will often recognize a car that I drove behind on the way to work a few days later. Strange, no?

  2. I’m a firm believer in a good handshake. I’m not one of those people who will squeeze your hand off, but I also hate wimpy handshakes. In that same vein, I feel like a fish out of water when another guy extends their hand for what I think is a handshake, only to do that slide the hand and punch the knuckles thing. I totally hate that, and I always assume they’re offering a handshake, so then I feel very awkward when I shake and they try to slide their hand across mine. Seriously, why do guys have to do all the hand slapping stuff?

  3. You know that sound that your straw makes when you’re trying to jam it into a glass full of ice (the fridge kind, not the wimpy fountain drink ice), and it scrapes down the side of the ice? That noise is probably the worst sound in the world. My family can attest to this. Everytime we sit down and my Mom pours a coke into her glass and proceeds to stab her straw into it, I end up in a limp pile on the floor. I know this is crazy weird, and I can’t explain it, but it is true.

  4. When I was a child I constantly surprised my mother by using words like gelatinous and voluminous. It overjoyed me to no end when I started my current job, I used the word over-modulated in normal conversation and wasn’t laughed at.

  5. I am deathly afraid of trams. I’ve lived in Albuquerque all of my life, the location of the gorgeous Sandia Mountains and the world’s longest tram, and I’ve still never ridden it. I’m completely fine with a chairlift, but I freak out when I have to ride in a tram. If it’s the only way available to the top of a ski mountain, I’ll ride one, but I close my eyes and pray the whole time.

  6. I only eat eggs if they’re scrambled. I refuse to touch them if they are prepared any other way. All that yolk everywhere…nasty! When I was a kid I would drench them in ketchup too. Ok, I still do that, but I like to think that I don’t need as much ketchup now that my palette is more refined.

Alright, that’s it for my weird issues. Hopefully I haven’t scared you off ;) More details coming soon on the store scavenger hunt, I promise!

Why Am I Up? 28Jan07

I really don’t know. It’s 2 hours past my bedtime, and it seems that I still haven’t gone to bed yet, despite the fact that it’s almost 1 AM. I haven’t been up this late…since I was in college! (well in undergraduate school anyway) I’m hoping that the rhythmic clacking of the keyboard as I type this will help soothe me to sleep. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Oh, still here? Ok, I’ll move on.

Since I’m a list fanatic (who isn’t?), I’ll give you a rundown of my day in bulleted format.

"can we go yet papa?"
"hey Dad? more walking, less picture taking.
  • After waking up, I took Dallas and Emma on a walk to get in my mileage for Runagogo. I didn’t run, because I’m enough of a klutz as is, and adding two dogs and a leash spells disaster. But we enjoyed ourselves and had a nice brisk walk. Oh, and Junior wasn’t with us, because he got adopted! Yup, Junior now has a new home with a very nice family. I’m super excited for him :)

  • Then I showered up and headed over to the west side to meet up with my Mom for lunch and some errands. We went to a new tea shop near Old Town, called New Mexico Tea Company. It was a super nice shop, and I bought a very cool tea set and some delicious Blueberry Rooibos tea. Plus the owner, David, was super nice and very helpful. If you’re in ABQ, you should check it out!

  • I also took some pictures of my new socks! Yup, the Malamute socks are done and got christened today. They’re super comfy and I love the way the pattern turned out. It’s the Slip Stitch Ribbing from Sensational Knitted Socks, with an Eye of Partridge Heel. The pattern shows off Georgia’s Hand-Dyed Yarn just beautifully. Aren’t they swank?

  • I did manage to get a nice Saturday Sky picture, even though technically it’s being posted on Sunday. (Don’t you just love how I’m always late with these things?)
come out sun!
  • After all the excitement on the West Side, I came home, ran some errands and made some dinner. Chicken Parmesan, mmm!

Nice relaxing way to spend a Saturday eh?

Ok, I think I’ve managed to make myself sleepy so I’m going to hit the hay now. I’ll try to dream of electric sheep.

Not An Iota 25Jan07

Of knitting has been on this blog in the past 5 posts! Bad Adam, Bad! It’s not that I haven’t been knitting, there’s been plenty of that going on, it’s just that I don’t have too many exciting things. I’m just about done with my Malamute Socks, so after I finish and graft the toe on the 2nd one, I’ll take some pictures. I’m super excited to finish and wear them, they’ve been wonderful to knit. I think I might even make some fingerless mitts with the leftover yarn, so I can keep my hands warm in style during the day at work. There’s a very nice guy friendly pattern in Knitting with Balls that I think I’ll try out.

I’m also still chugging along on my Mom’s Garden Shawl, even though I’ve yet to take some decent pictures of it. I’m going to build a lightbox this weekend, so I’m planning to do an extensive photoshoot of it in it’s ever-growing state. It’s getting pretty big! I’m afraid it’s just going to engulf my Mom when she wears it and that we won’t be able to find her! At least it’ll look beautiful. ;)

To further distract you from my lack of knitting photos, here’s some cooking pictures instead. I made fresh ahi tuna salad last night, and boy was it good! It has tomatoes, red onions, avocado, sesame seeds, fresh ahi tuna and a spicy soy lime dressing. I put it on some sunflower wheat bread and had it with orange-ginger carrots. It was a yummy dinner and made a tasty lunch today too!

mmm, fancy tuna salad

Sorry for the lack of content, but I promise tomorrow will be better! It’ll be Eye Candy Friday with my Malamute Socks, and I’m going to announce some details to a big contest that I’m having. I have a few spare skeins, so I’m going to have a little internet scavenger hunt to build some buzz for the big announcement on Feb. 5. I have a fun little challenge planned, so come back to get all the details! Have a great day everyone!

Work and Rewards 23Jan07

First off. 24 last night? Did anyone else see it? OMG! Jack is so crazy! Anyway, if you want to discuss whether or not Jack Bauer is legally insane, then you should drop me a line with the contact form, rather than using the comments, so my readers who aren’t on Day 6 don’t tar and feather me. (come on peeps! hurry up!)

That aside, I really don’t have too much to report…school is in full swing, so I’m getting adjusted to my new schedule and trying to maintain my sanity quotient. It’s harder than it sounds. But whenever I may stay up too late trying to get things done, I always have these little clocks to keep me on the right sleep schedule.

sleepy time!
"come to bed papa! we’re sleepy!"

And yep, that’s Junior in the background. He’s still with me, although there’s a family coming to see him in a few days and I think he’s going to finally be adopted. It’s been more of a process because he’s older and deaf, but he’s a sweet guy and still deserves a good home.

Also, I’m at 19.6 miles for Runagogo, yeah! Last time I started running I didn’t make it this far, so I’m excited. I ran almost 3 miles last night, in the cold even! I went out at dusk and decided to just run in the neighborhood rather than deal with the gym lines, and I had a very nice time. I warmed up towards the end, and had some hot tea when I got home too. Not my favorite to run in the cold, but I was proud of myself for getting out there and getting it done. So to celebrate, I had a little reward tonight ;) Just a small one, I promise! (I even skipped the cone!)

I couldn't resist!

I guess that means I better run extra far tomorrow!

Oh Yeah, New Yarn. 19Jan07

Check it out, I’ve been dyeing to show these to you! (Just so you know, I have no shame over that pun.)

I think they’re very worthy of Eye Candy Friday.
new colors!
new colors!

These are some new colorways that I dyed up last weekend, in preparation for the unveiling of my new name and store. I’m still hard at work, making sure everything is ready, for the Grand Opening on Feb. 5! That’s right, in just a few short weeks you’ll have a chance at these beauties, as well as some other exciting colorways. I have a new base yarn that’s super luxurious, some new colors and a fun brand. I’m super excited to show it off! I’m not going to tell you the names of these colorways (partly since not all of them are named yet), because I want them to be a surprise for the big day! So you’ll just have to be patient :)

Hope you have a lovely weekend! It looks like mine might be filled with snow and plenty of knitting, since I don’t have any homework assignments yet. Gotta make the best of my time until the work starts piling up!
