The Jumping Schnauzer 16Jul06

Today was a blast. Emma and I did our first major agility event, and it was so much fun. It was the 2006 Show N’ Go, put on by the Southwest Agility Team. It was just a fun event, no judging or scoring, but we got to run 2 different courses, and get a lot of good experience. Emma had a very good time, and so did I. I can’t wait until we start competing for real! Here’s a few pictures, one of Emma getting ready to run, and one of the course that she ran.

In other news, the house is done! I actually started parking my car in the garage yesterday, which was pretty cool. I feel a lot better now knowing that my car is safe from the freak hailstorms that seem to follow me around. And that means that I’ve been able to crank out a lot more knitting now that I’m not spending my evenings cleaning. Not that I wouldn’t do that if I could, since apparently that’s my new favorite past-time, at least that’s what my roomates think.

So I suppose I need to back up my claims of increased knitting with actual results. So here’s the obligatory pictures. I finished my first sock with the Smores yarn, and I also joined the Mason Dixon dishrag craze that seems to be sweeping the knitting blog world by storm. They’re really quite satisfying and quick to crank out.

Well, I better go because Mom (AKA the Knit Nazi…”More Knit for You!”) is pestering me to keep knitting so we have lots of stuff to sell at the artisan fair. Peace Out Knitters.

How fun is that!? You can’t do that kind of stuff with a cat. They just look at you like you have three heads then curl up and sleep.

I have a couple hanks of the S’mores yarn, and I’m surprised the stripes aren’t thicker. I hadn’t seen it knit up yet, but who can resist a yarn named after your favorite childhood treat? Heh. And the Sugar ‘n Creme you knit your dishcloth out of is a colorway I don’t think I’ll ever be able to bring myself to purchase again. I had 3 balls of that stuff my mom made me knit up into cloths for her bathroom. The large skeins. I think I made 9 cloths out of them. Never again. Oy.

Ha, I think sometimes Emma thinks I have 3 heads too, but I just increase the treat supply and she gets excited :) That’s the key to agility, you have to give them tons of treats and be super excited, and then your dog will become super excited and think it’s the best thing in the world. I’m not an expert by any means, but the people I’ve seen who get frustrated with their dog are usually grumpy and uptight, and since they’re not having fun, their dog isn’t either.

I’m not sure why the stripes on the smore’s sock aren’t bigger, maybe it has to do with it being the first skein of that colorway that Scout dyed. There’s some color pooling in the heel of the sock which I think looks very cool. I love to examine the symmetry of the pattern, but I’m a nerd like that.
