Lunch Makes Me Sleepy 14Mar06

Edit (3/15): OK, this is weird, but I posted this yesterday and for some reason it got marked as private, so it didn’t get posted to the blog. Hmm, anyway, here’s the post now.

I just had lunch, at the wonderful Olympia Cafe across from UNM, and now I’m so sleepy I can hardly keep my eyes open. I really wish that America was more like Japan, where we got to have long lunch breaks with a nap built in. That’d be totally sweet. It could also be that I went to a 7:30 AM Bible Study on the West Side today, so I was up very early, after not sleeping too much. But the Bible Study was great, and I can take a nap later, so things are all good. :) Continue reading ‘Lunch Makes Me Sleepy’

Progress Pics 11Mar06

Well, I managed to cast on and get almost 3 inches into the cuff while riding in the car to Trader Joes. And I must say, that store is awesome! We got some really cool stuff, and I was really into their wine selection and prices, I’m definitely going to shop there regularly. Also, we saw Erin and her husband Tomas in the checkout line, which was cool! I really need to go to Knitters, Not Quitters at Napoli on an upcoming Saturday, especially since Noelle said today that she’d bring her wheel and show me some spinning tricks. So I’ll be there sometime soon Erin, I promise :)

I’m getting really excited about these fuzzy feet, I think they’re going to come out really nice. I’m using this cappuccino colored yarn, it’s donegal tweed from Tahki yarns, I really love the colors. Here’s a pic of my progress so far:

Also, I thought I’d post a picture of the new handles on my laptop bag, since they’re all done now. Basically it’s a really long i-cord that I looped around the bag, so that the handles are supporting the computer rather than stressing the bag itself. There’s a small knot in the i-cord on the back of the bag, but I took some thick thread and tacked it down really good, so that knot isn’t going anywhere. I really like the new handles because of the support, but next time I would definitely have the foresight to make the holes a little farther over, so they don’t obscure the Apple logo. I’m planning to sew the shoulder strap on tomorrow, since my Mom says that her machine will be able to get through all the layers of fabric with no problems.

Also, I think I’ve decided against a pocket, because I’m mostly going to carry this bag on my back via the strap, and I really don’t want my power adapter sticking in the small of my back. I may make a small pouch out of fabric to put the adapter in so I can store it in the bag, but I don’t really need it all the time anyway.

I may use the extra yarn I have to make a felted iPod pouch for my nano, which would be cool. But I think once I get the shoulder strap on I’m going to officially declare this bag a finished object, woo-hoo!

Well, I’m off to see if SNL is new tonight, and keep working away on the fuzzy feet. Peace out homeslice!

Fun @ The Shop 11Mar06

So I spent a good amount of time today in Village Wools, chilling with Jamie and all the crew there, and it was a lot of fun! I really do enjoy spending my Saturday afternoons in the yarn shop :) I was trying to decide what to knit next since I’m almost done with my laptop bag, and I was wanting to do some felted moccasins from my Felted Knits book, but Jamie was really encouraging me to do socks, so I took her advice, sort of. She helped me decide to do this pattern for felted sock/slippers from knitty, called Fuzzy Feet.

Really all the pattern is are two really big socks that are knit with big needles, and then felted to size. So it’s a good way to learn sock techniques, without having to start with sock yarn and size 0 needles, which was a bit daunting. Also, Noelle was there too, and she helped me pick out some sweet tweed yarn, since she’s made a bunch of Fuzzy Feet before. So I’m very excited to get started on these tonight, and see how far I can get. Jamie thinks I’m going to be done by the end of the evening, but I’m not so sure, since I think my family is getting ready to leave to take an expedition to Trader Joes for the evening, and buy some cheap organic food.

At any rate, I’m looking forward to the Fuzzy Feet, and my little brother really wants me to knit him a pair too, so I will get lots of practice :) I also finished the new handle and shoulder strap for my laptop bag, and am planning to sew on the shoulder strap tonight. I’m still not sure about the pocket, because I dont’ know if I want my bulky power adapter right up against the small of my back when I’m carrying the bag, so I need to make a decision on that too.

Well I’m off to cast-on for the Fuzzy Feet, so peace out!

Home SnB Fun! 10Mar06

I’m really excited, because tonight my Mom and I are going over to a family friend’s house, who I’ve been helping to learn to knit. She even gave me her first scarf! (It looked a lot better than my first scarf ;)) She’s invited us over tonight for dinner and knitting, like a mini SnB group. It should be a lot of fun!

Also, the pattern is now up, so go grab that puppy and get to work! There’s still some work to be done on the pattern, since I’m still finishing up the button closure, shoulder strap, etc. But most of it is up, so enjoy! Sorry that the gauge section is long and drawn out, but I really feel that it’s the most important part of the project. Be sure to leave any comments you have, whether it be suggestions, or you just can understand what I’m trying to say. And be sure to send me pictures of your bag if you make one!

Spring Break Baby! 09Mar06

Yeah, I’m officially on Spring Break now! Well technically it doesn’t start until tomorrow, but I’ve decided to return to Abq early and skip the classes I have tomorrow. Isn’t college awesome? So now I have a whole week to stay home and knit! Well actually, I have plenty of other things to do, including cram for my GRE, so I might not get too much knitting done, but I can dream right?

Also, I know that there is a new patterns page on the blog, but there is still no pattern up for the laptop tote because I haven’t gotten my act together yet. Hopefully that’ll happen by tomorrow sometime. :)

Well I think I’m going to go finish the really long i-cord that I’m making my new cool handle from, so that I can felt that and the shoulder strap, to add more completeness to my sweet bag!
