Sorry, I felt compelled to use some acryonms for some reason or another, so let me explain, lest you think I’m a total dork (but you still might, and I’m ok with that). I had Senior Design (EE 482) presentations, which is about the most boring experience ever. We’ve had so many presentations since last semester, and each one is not much different than the last. Basically, I made a Powerpoint presentation at the beginning of last semester and we’ve presented 4 times since then, with the same material, with maybe a few changes. I really don’t know why our professor makes us dress up so much and get in front of mostly classmates and like 2 other department professors to say the same things over and over again. It’s getting rather tiresome.
Anyway, so we had our presentation yesterday, which was termed the “Critical Design Review” (hence CDR), and I knew I would be bored so I took my knitting with me. I busted it out and got in a lot of work because when 6 teams present for 20-25 minutes each, you sit there a lot. I got a few looks from some of my classmates, and the department chair, when he wasn’t fiddling with his palm pilot instead of paying attention. One of my friends in my group, who was sitting next to me, kept teasing me, because he’s thinks it’s weird that I knit. I just tell him that he’s from Nebraska and I forgive him that, so he’ll just have to get over me knitting.
I guess this discussion kinda relates to Yarn Boy’s thoughts on public knitting, and why it can sometimes attract a lot of attention to be a guy and knit in public. I’m not really sure what that’s like, since Albuquerque doesn’t have too much in the way of public transit, and I drive my car everywhere, but I could imagine that knitting in public could bring a lot of attention being a guy. Oh well, who cares, cause if someone in public gives you a hard time, you could always kindly remind them that knitting needles can be quite sharp. ;)

Knitting among engineers is brave in any circumstance for any gender! ;) I wish I had known how to knit in college… it would’ve saved me from being bored in class so many times!
P.S. We’d love to have you on Saturday! I’d say bring Emma, but we’ve only managed to get Noelle’s hedgehog in the coffeeshop so far!
See, if you came to SnB you’d get LOTS of attention! ;)
