So I worked some more on the blanket last night, while watching 24, and Jack totally opened a can on the assassin guy who tried to kill him, I mean surgical scissors to the carotid artery, that’s gotta hurt! I’m nearing completion of the 2nd strip, and then I have to make the last strip, which is just a repeat of the first one. Then I get to sew it all together and do the edging and then BAM! I’m really excited to finish, it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve learned a ton about working some complex color patterns!
Emma went to her 2nd Advanced Novice class at Acoma Training Center last night, she’s getting so much better as the weeks go by, I really can’t believe how much she’s progressed. Any time we go out on a walk she stays right at my side, heeling perfectly to my speed, and now when we stop at intersections, she automatically sits down. And I even took her into the Calvary Coffee Shop this morning and I made her lay down and stay in the corner while I walked around and got my coffee and said hi to people. I can’t wait until she’s ready to start competing in agility, it’ll be so much fun!
Also, bear with me as I work to customize the blog and get more plugins going (my del.icio.us bookmarks, etc), and eventually I’m going to do a custom template, so there’s a lot to look forward to as the blog matures!

So I really love Wordpress.com for its free hosting, because I’m a Wordpress addict, but I kept getting bummed out by the lack of customization and cool plugins. So I got a hosting account with Yahoo (dirt cheap!) and a new domain name: adamknits.com
I’ve imported all my old posts from the old blog, and I’ll keep that blog up for now while the domain name changes are pending. Thanks for visiting!

So there seems to be a lot of stuff in the news lately about the rising trend of men who knit, or at least the stuff I read seems to have more of these “special interest” pieces. One of my new favorite bloggers, Yarn Boy, posted a link to a Christian forum that featured a discussion on whether or not it’s appropriate to let your sons (and daughters) knit. I read this discussion, and man was some of it flamebait! It was all I could do to keep from registering for yet another forums account so that I could put in my 2 cents, but I withheld my rage.
I’m really ashamed to call myself a Christian and see how these people who claim Jesus Christ as their savior be so judgmental about guys who knit or do other “feminine tasks”. Now let me give credit to a number of posters in this topic who were doing their best to dispell the flamebaiters and show people that knitting is a valuable art and expression of creativity, and that men who knit aren’t automatically gay. But some of those people were so closed minded and set in their perception of gender roles that it’s unbelievable. So I’d like to apologize to those out there who were offended by this post, and let me say that not all Christians are like those people, and that I’m just as hurt by those allegations that knitting is a feminine act that has no place in society. Oh well, sometimes you just have to let such comments pass over your head and just keep making some sweet knits!
In other news, I’m making some good progress on my dog blanket, hopefully I’ll have some more pictures to post sometime. My mom and I spent some time in Village Wools yesterday, because she wanted to buy the beads for her felted purse. It came out so sweet, I can’t wait to make my next big project (it’s a secret, but here’s some hints: apple, nostalgic, 80s, computer, felted). It’s going to be so amazing, but I just have to complete this blanket first!

so I thought I’d take a moment to introduce my schnauzer, Emma, since I seem to refer to her a lot. here she is, in the middle of stealing some yarn with my mom’s 14 week old puppy a few nights ago. she’s giving one of her pouty looks that she’s so famous for, what a ham

here’s another close up shot of the color work involved with this square of the blanket. I originally tried fair isle because I thought all the strands that intarsia requires would be too complex, but the back looked messy and it kept pulling, so I ended up starting over and working it in intarsia. for my first complex color work project, i’m very pleased with how it came out!
